Jon Gruden & Miami Hurricanes, New Report Says He’s In!

The University of Miami Hurricanes and potential Hurricane football coach Jon Gruden continue to talk, according to unnamed sources. He may even already be hired.

It was reported here two days ago that Jon Gruden threw his hat in as a potential coach for the Miami hurricanes upon Randy Shannon’s firing.

The very next day, talk of Jon Gruden’s interest in becoming a football coach for the University of Miami was discredited. Gruden released a statement saying “I am committed to Monday Night Football and to ESPN. I enjoy working with Mike, Jaws and our entire crew and am just trying to get better at this job.”

For many, that seem the end of it.

However, just two days later, Orlando’s Sun Sentinel published a statement (again, from an unnamed source) saying the Gruden and Miami Hurricanes deal “definitely still is in play.” And the Sun Sentinel is reporting that discussions between Gruden and the University of Miami have continued.

Earlier today, a website for Miami Hurricane fans, Canesport.com, said a deal was imminent.

A smattering of reports have indicated that Gruden was in contact with the University of Miami prior to Randy Shannon’s firing.

Sports Journey Broadcast Network owner and host Lake Lewis, who broke the original story, is now saying that Gruden flew to Miami after Monday Night’s MNF broadcast and has already signed a deal, reportedly for $3 million a year. He also said Jon Gruden’s brother, Jay Gruden, will become the team’s offensive coordinator.

The University of Miami fired head football coach Randy Shannon just last Saturday, after a disappointing loss to South Florida. The Miami hurricanes went 7-5 this year.
