Knack’s Quest Comes To Android – Preview & First Impressions

Knack’s Quest, the adorable little brother of “Knack”, the poorly reviewed PlayStation 4 launch title, has recently made its way to Android through Google’s Play Store.

Coming out a full month after the original iOS release, Knack’s Quest for Android exists primarily as a stand alone application. However, there are a few features that allow players to interact with the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

… It’s A Puzzle Game

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the original release on iOS, Knack’s Quest is a basic “match three” puzzle game with all of the mundanities that one has come to expect from the genre.

Different colored (and shaped) blocks are stacked in rows, one on top the other. The aim of the game is to manipulate the rows/columns in such a way as to get three of the same color blocks to match up.

The game, much like its console counterpart, is divided into multiple chapters, each consisting of three levels. In order to complete a level, the players must accumulate enough points to level up Knack, the “protagonist” of the original title, three times before the timer at the bottom runs out.

Unique Features

To be honest, there really is not much here to separate this game from the literally thousands of other competing titles on the market. Currently, the stand out feature is the ability to transfer parts, obtained once the player reaches a certain “points” threshold, to the PS4 version of the game.

Another very slightly differentiating feature is the ability to use  powers once you have successfully matched up enough of the “special” orange crystals scattered through the level.

Conclusion

I truly believe that SCE Japan Studio, the developers of the game, really took the lazy way out with this one. There was a genuine opportunity here to really make a splash in mobile gaming space, something that they failed miserably at with their console efforts.

Should you bother to download “Knack’s Quest”?

That would just depend on how much you enjoy matching games.
