Latest Rumors: iPhone 5 Launch In Sept – iPad Mini Not Until Oct

Full size Apple iPad

The iPad Mini and the iPhone 5 will be launched at the same event next month, according to a large number the Apple rumors currently circulating around the web.

But many in the industry say it just won’t happen.

It’s commonly believed that the iPhone 5 will make its debut at an event (so far unannounced) on September 12th.

But there’s another new Apple device in play, what many are calling an iPad Mini. The iPad Mini is expected to be a smaller, less powerful, cheaper, version of the full size model.

Speculating on the likelihood of the two new devices launching at the same time, John Gruber, from Daring Fireball, writes:

“I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time. Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? … The more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention — and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.”

Many sources are agreeing with Gruber’s theory. The iPhone is the strongest product that Apple has to offer at the moment, and it is not logical that it would be launched at the same event with a smaller iPad, as this would diminish media coverage and attention.

Of course, Apple is silent on all this, but it’s a good best at the moment that the iPhone 5 will be announced first, and that in October we will hear about the iPad Mini.
