The Mall of America, which has been open on Thanksgiving since 2012, will not be so this year. Instead, they will give their 12,000 employees and customers the chance to spend the holiday with family and friends.
Although individual stores at the mall were given the option to decide whether to remain open or not, only three stores will actually be open on Thanksgiving, according to the Star Tribune. These stores are Macy’s, Sears, and the Crayola Experience. All other stores, including the movie theaters and aquarium, will be closed.
In addition, more than 50 national chain stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, according to Best Black Friday. These stores are:

Many stores are deciding to close on Thanksgiving to give their employees a day off and to put some focus back on Black Friday.
In addition, because of Blue laws in Rhode Island, Maine, and Massachusetts, almost all stores in these states, including stores like Walmart and Target, will be closed on Thursday. Exemptions to this rule include stores like restaurants, pharmacies, and gas stations.
