Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has released more information on a number of upcoming Wii U titles in the most recent Nintendo Direct broadcast.
Mr. Iwata also announced that Nintendo has entered an exclusive partnership with its former rival Sega.
The new partnership will give Nintendo exclusive publishing rights for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
The Nintendo president then revealed the first title which will be published under the new agreement: Sonic Lost World. The adventure platformer will be released exclusively on the Wii U and 3DS, although no further details have been revealed so far.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
The Nintendo President also revealed a new entry into The Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games franchise.
The new game will utilize both the Wii MotionPlus and the Wii U gamepad and contain a number of events including skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, curling, biathlon and bobsledding.
No release date has been announced for Mario & Sonic thus far.
Resident Evil Revelations
Resident Evil Revelations will be a Wii U port of the 3DS title of the same name. The new port will feature updated graphics and a new difficulty level.
The new ‘Infernal’ difficulty mode will relocate enemies and items within the game. Resident Evil Revelations will also contain a number of new characters.
Mr. Iwata added that Resident Evil Revelations “will feel like a totally different experience” from the 3DS version.
The Wii U version will utilize the Wii U gamepad as a map and inventory display, and the game will be playable on the gamepad using Off-TV Mode.
A Resident Evil Revelations demo is available for download from the Wii U eShop now. The full release will be available May 24.
New Super Luigi U
The Nintendo Direct presentation also provided a release date for the much anticipated New Super Luigi U.
New Super Luigi U will be available as a downloadable add-on for New Super Mario Bros. U from the Nintendo eShop June 20.
A standalone boxed version of the game will be released July 26 for those who don’t own a copy of New Super Mario Bros. U.
The Wonderful 101
The Wonderful 101 was briefly mentioned during the broadcast, however it does not appear that Nintendo is ready to make a full reveal just yet. The Wonderful 101 is expected to be released on August 23.
Pikmin 3
Mr. Iwata finished the presentation with Pikmin 3. Iwata explained that new Pikmin title will no longer star Olimar, the series’ long running main character. Instead Pikmin 3 will star new characters called Alph, Brittany and Charlie.
Pikmin 3 is slated for a July 26 release.
