Minecraft: Xbox One Edition Coming Friday, 360 Users Pay $4.99

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition goes live Friday, as confirmed by Microsoft. The game will cost $19.99 for Xbox One users, however, if you own the Xbox 360 edition, you will only need to pay $4.99.

The exact statement from Microsoft reads as, “To qualify for the $4.99 USD upgrade offer, players must own the retail disc or digital version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and connect to Xbox Live with their account.”

But don’t worry about losing your save files and content. You’ll be able to transfer all of this over to the new edition.

A release date has been highly anticipated by Minecraft players ever since the Xbox One edition was announced at E3 in June.

Current players will likely want to upgrade as the game comes loaded with a multitude of new features. For starters, you’ll be able to create worlds that are up to 36x larger than the ones in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition.

In terms of playing with friends or other people, local play will now be able to support a four-way screen split while Xbox Live will give players the option of playing with up to 8 people.

A release date for Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition has not yet been confirmed, but it’s expected to be any day now. However, it has been confirmed that, like Xbox 360 users, owners of Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will be able to upgrade to the PS4 version for only $4.99.

We will continue to bring you more updates as they are released.
