More Recall Woes For Toyota Are you Affected?

Toyota is recalling another 6.5 million vehicles but this problem has nothing to do with Takata airbags.

No Toyota has a problem with window switches.

The window switches in several models have the potential to short circuit and even cause a fire.

Toyota said the problem is not enough grease was used which can cause the switch to malfunction, overheat and possibly start a fire.

Affected vehicles are:

2007 and 2009 Toyota Camry and Toyota Camry Hybrid

2009-2011 Toyota Corolla

2009-2011 Toyota Highlander and Toyota Highlander Hybrid

2009-2011 Toyota Matrix

2006-2007 and 2009-2011 Toyota RAV4

2009-2011 Toyota Sequoia

2009-2011 Toyota Tundra

2006-2007 and 2009-2011 Toyota Yaris

2006 and 2009-2011 Scion xB

2009-2011 Scion xD

So far only one injury has occurred in the U.S., the person suffered a burn on their hand. However the company has received 11 American reports of burnt car doors either partially or completely.

Dealers will replace faulty circuit boards within malfunctioning switches, or if the switch still functions properly, reapply the grease properly.

There has been an enormous amount of recalls over the past few years and Toyota has led the way. In the U.S. alone Toyota has recalled 2.9 million vehicles in the Takata airbag debacle. In 2012 a similar window switch recall affected 7.4 million cars and in 2009 faulty brakes affected more than 7 million.

Toyota is not alone, throughout the automotive industry 74 million vehicles were recalled in 2014 alone and so far this year close to 40 million have been recalled.
