MSNBC’s controversial liberal talk show host, Keith Olbermann, was “told” that tonight’s episode will be his last, he said on his “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” show tonight.
The statement was confirmed by MSNBC in a terse statement:
“MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC’s success and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Olbermann, 49 years old, has hosted “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” in its current form since 2003. Previous to that, he was a host on MSNBC during 1997 and 1998, but quit the network, saying that they made him focus too much on the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal.
MSNBC is shuffling it’s schedule, moving Lawrence O’Donnell to the 8pm slot, and Ed Schultz to 10 p.m.
James Poniewozik, over at Time.com, has been speculating on where Olbermann goes next. He reports on the idea that Olbermann (and perhaps, his million some viewers) may go to Fox News.
The idea was apparently first proposed on Twitter by Hollywood Reporter critic Tim Goodman, and Poniewozik says it’s “maybe-not-entirely-crazy”, and points out that Olbermann has a history with Fox. Olbermann used to be a broadcaster on Fox Sports.
