My ‘Entourage’ Review

I recently was fortunate enough to catch a screening of the HBO series-turned-film “Entourage”. Doug Ellin (creator of the series and writer-director for the film) has brought us back into the world of Hollywood celebrity life with this 104 minute feature.

I’m a big fan of the series, but can also see where and why people dislike it so much. People either tend to really love it, or really hate it. I think the film does a good job of being faithful to the fans while not alienating new people who weren’t into the show.

It was hard to not compare this film to a 2-hour episode of “Entourage”. The HBO series has already covered the same types of stories that the movie has shown. Vinny Chase (Adrian Grenier) is an A list actor who demands to be the Director of Ari Gold’s (Jeremy Piven) first film as studio head. Being $15 million over budget, Ari and Vince must take idiotic notes from an investor who’s paid for half the movie (Billy Bob Thorton and his son, Haley Joel Osment). This reminded me all too much of a season where they show a highly expensive film that goes awry – “Medellin”.

The cameos were numerous, the nudity was ample, and the guys (manager, E, chauffeur, Turtle, half-brother, Johnny Drama, and Vince) have their own roller coaster rides to make this a fun movie. However, this could have easily been four episodes of a new season, but it was still nice to see the gang up on the big screen.
