Approximately 90,000 girl’s tops and dresses are being recalled because they contain a high level of lead, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recall, announced yesterday, is for clothing that was made by My Michelle, of New York, NY. The CPSC announcement said that the jewelry and decorative trim which is attached to the clothing contains a high level of lead. They point out that lead is a toxic substance and if ingested by young children, it can cause adverse health affects.
The tops and dresses were sold in small to extra large sizes, and from sizes 7 to 16. There are several styles. All of the tops and dresses have a black colored tag on the collar that says “mymichelle.” They were made in Vietnam.
The clothes were sold from January 2011 through March 2011 at department stores nationwide. The stores include the Burlington Coat Factory, Dillard’s, J.C. Penney, Kohl’s, Army and Air Force Exchange (AAFES), K & G Fashion Superstore, and other retailers. The retail price would have been approximately $38, according to the CPSC.
The CPSC is asking owners to immediately take the recalled tops and dresses away from children. They said that company can be contacted for information on receiving a full refund at 1-800-960-8791, from 8am to 6pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. They can also be emailed at customerservice@mymichellerecall.com.
