Netflix’s The Legend Of Zelda Live-Action Series Is Risky

A recent story posted by the Wall Street Journal stated that, “[Netflix] is in the early stages of developing a live-action series based on ‘The Legend Of Zelda'” Netflix seems to be working very close with Nintendo to pull of a live-series of such a famed name.

The Legend Of Zelda, a Nintendo developed game series that has won the hearts of many fans throughout the years. The Legend of Zelda takes place in the land of Hyrule, a fantasy world in which an ordinary boy named Link has been given a task to rescue Princess Zelda and the land.

There is a possibility that the show may be related to “The Legend Of Zelda Wii U” that is going to be released later this year, but it may be an original project.

Many fans are a bit put off by the turn of events. Live-actions are very risky projects that could become disastrous if done wrong. The act of turning a video game or other fictional series  into a TV series with real people requires tremendous amount of work, time and resources.

If the story is completely original, then the story can be molded based on the writers desires without worry of accuracy or the fan’s criticism of the plot. However, if the writer decides to follow an existing story line, but fails to remain on point, fans will be massively disappointed.

Examples of poorly-created live-actions would include: The Last Airbender or DragonBall: Evolution.

With such a large and loyal fan-base, the consequences can lead to a discontinued series, terrible ratings and viewership, and lost of trust with the fans.

What are your thoughts about the new live-action series? Do you feel that the series can be a favorite among fans or a massive flop like many others.
