Comic book collectors and fans of superheroes have the chance to pick up a rare gem today after the new Spiderman was unveiled – as a multicultural replacement for Peter Parker.
Marvel Comics has made Spiderman half black and half hispanic for their Ultimate Fallout No 4 publication, which is up for sale for the first time in shops today.
Industry insiders believe the comic will become a real collectors item in years to come.
Peter Parker – who has always been Spiderman – died in the last issue of the comic and Spidy’s superpowers have been given to Miles Morales.
The Comic’s writer Brian Michael Bendis said: “He’s younger than Peter Parker, he’s coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view.”
In his first appearance, he simply breaks up a fight. But readers will learn the true origin of Morales and how he became the new Spider-Man when Ultimate Spider-Man relaunches in September with a new No. 1 issue.
“The theme is the same,” Bendis added. “With great power comes great responsibility. He’s going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means.”
