Nissan is recalling a small number of 2012 Nissan Versa sedans and Nissan Altimas to correct a problem with the side curtain airbags.
According to a statement from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the vehicles may have an incorrect mixture of propellants and that may cause the side curtain airbags not to deploy during a collision.
A total of 976 vehicles are affected by this recall. Nissan will be notifying owners starting February 27, with instructions to bring their cars to their dealerships to be checked. One or both side curtain airbag modules may be replaced at that time, at no cost to the owner.
Nissan is not the first company to have an issue with the side curtain airbags. Model year 2011 Toyota RAV4 SUVs were recalled earlier this month. Honda recalled model year 2012 Crosstour and Civic vehicles. Subaru had a recall on model year 2012 Legacy and Outback vehicles. All of these recalls were for similar airbag issues.
