Nokia Lumia 1020: Price, Specs, Camera, Preordering & Release Date Details

The Nokia Lumia 1020 was finally announced last night at an event in New York.

Most of the new smartphone’s specs were leaked on the Internet beforehand.

But now it’s official: the main selling point of the new smartphone is the huge 41 megapixel camera (Xenon flash included).

The new Nokia Windows Phone 8 device will only be available on one carrier: AT&T. It will cost $299.99 with a 2 year contract.

Preorders start July 16th, and you’ll be able to find the Lumia 1020 in AT&T stores around July 26.

A quick look at the main Nokia Lumia 1020 specs:

    • 2 GB RAM

        • 4.5 inch display – 1280X768 resolution

            • 1.5 GHz processor

                • 41 megapixel camera

                    • weight: 158 grams

                        • 2000 mAh battery

The main selling point of the smartphone is the very impressive camera.

Whether or not buyers will be interested in paying $300 is yet to be seen. But there is no denying the fact that the buzz generated by the big camera is huge. Everyone in the industry is talking about the 41 megapixel camera.

Stephen Elop, Nokia chief of operations, stressed the innovation history of the company when talking about the smartphone and it’s camera:

“This passion for pictures is something that Nokia recognized very, very early on. We filed our first imaging patent in 1994; the first of 450 imaging patents we hold today. The Nokia 1020 will change how you shoot, how you create, and how you share pictures forever”

Nokia does have a history of offering high quality cameras for most of the phones they manufacture. But 41 megapixels? And with HD video recording? That’s a big deal.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in matte yellow, matte white and matte black.

It is expected that a release in Europe and China will soon be announced.
