NPD: Apple #1 In Mobile PC Shipments

Apple maintained its top spot for shipping the most mobile PCs during the fourth quarter of last year.

According to DisplaySearch, an NPD Group Company, Apple took a huge bite of the market, a 26.6% share, with almost 23.4 million mobile PCs shipped. That dwarfed the amount that HP shipped during the last quarter of the year, 8.7 million. Coming in third place was Dell with 6.9 million shipped. Acer came in fourth with 6.8 million shipped. Lenova ranked fifth with 6.3 million shipped.

NPD includes notebooks, laptops, and tablets and their mobile PC category.

When the category was further broken down, DisplaySearch found that Apple ranked first in the overall mobile PC category based on the strength of its tablet sales. Apple shipped 18.7 million tablets during the fourth quarter. About 80% of those tablets were iPads. Amazon ranked second with 5.3 million tablets shipped. Samsung shipped 2.1 million. Asus shipped 1.5 million. And Barnes & Noble shipped 1.1 million.

Taking a look at the notebook category, DisplaySearch reported that HP had the most notebooks shipped, with 8.7 million. Dell was ranked second with 6.7 million. Acer shipped 6.6 million. Lenova shipped 6.1 million. And this time, Apple trailed the group with 4.1 million shipped.
