Oil Production Platform Explodes In Gulf of Mexico

12 people were on a production platform that has exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. All are wearing water immersion suits and awaiting rescue, according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough.

Colclough reports that speculation is that the platform is still on fire.  The cause of the explosion unknown. It is also unknown if the rig was actively producing any product, so pollution can not be assessed at this time.

The people were thrown off the rig as it exploded. One is still missing.
