Online Shopping: Shipping Rates Revealed In New Report

We recently featured a story on L.L. Bean, about their announcement of free shipping on all orders with no minimum purchase.

That brought up a good question – who else offers free shipping for purchases made online?

The folks over at shipping.com were apparently wondering the same thing. So they conducted a study of 50 popular online stores and compared shipping rates.

In addition to L.L. Bean, they listed one other online store that offers free shipping with no minimum, Zappos (they also noted that Zappos has a one year return policy).

A large percentage of stores in the report offer free shipping with a minimum purchase amount. For example, Amazon.com has free shipping on certain products with a minimum of $25. They also have a membership plan, for $79/year, which qualifies members for free shipping on eligible products. Other stores of note that offer free shipping with a minimum purchase are Apple, Barnes and Noble, Gap, Home Depot, Macy’s, Office Depot, Staples, Toys”R”Us, and Walgreens.

Some that offer free shipping to a local store for pick up include Best Buy, Borders, KMart, Sears, and Walmart.
