The makers of Tylenol have issued a recall of its 8 hour caplets in the 50 count package due to complaints of a moldy and musty odor coming from the pills.
The pills being recalled have been sold in the United States and Puerto Rico with the lot number BCM155.
The odor is believed to be caused by trace amounts of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole in the caplets. The company believes that the risk of any adverse events from the pills is minute. An event occurs when there are reports of serious side effects from consumers that are a direct result of using the product in question according the FDA. These effects could include health complications, disability, hospitalization or in some cases death.
Customers who have these pills in their possession are advised to either call 1-888-222-6036 or visit the website at www.mcneilproductrecall.com. They will be instructed on how to receive a replacement or refund for their product.
This latest recall will join a growing list of recalls the company has experienced over the past year. There have been several recalls of their non-prescription drugs. The amount of recalls has led to a congressional inquiry.
Since November of 2009 the company has recalled various products that include Benadryl, Tylenol, Motrin, Tylenol Arthritis Pain and children’s versions of the medications.
Last month Johnson and Johnson CEO William Weldon admitted to lawmakers that his company had let the public down with its many recalls in recent months.
