Price Of BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet Slashed – Here’s Where!

Now it’s the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet whose price is being slashed!

Research In Motion (RIM) has begun to allow its retail partners to lower the prices on its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in an effort to raise sales. The tablet, which was first launched in April, sold for $499. Now the tablet is selling for prices as low as $249.

There are currently three versions of RIM’s QNX-powered tablet: a 16GB entry-level model, a 32GB model, and a 64 GB model. All three models are on sale at various nationwide retailers.

Staples has lowered the price of the BlackBerry PlayBook by $200, $100 of which is in instant savings, and the other $100 in the form of a mail-in rebate. Office Deport is offering the same exact deal.

Best Buy is also offering the same deal as Staples and Office Depot, but is advertising the new lowered prices as a limited-time sale that ends October 6.

The 16GB, 32GB and 64GB BlackBerry PlayBooks are available for $399.99, $499.99, and $599.99 respectively. In-store PlayBook purchases at Best Buy also qualify to receive a complimentary $100 Best Buy gift card.

According to reports, Walmart is also taking part in the BlackBerry PlayBook sale. Walmart is not advertising the sale, but people have said that Walmart is selling the 16GB tablet for $250, despite its advertised price of $498.

The PlayBook tablet sold 500,000 units in the first six weeks of its launch, but still could not compare to the Apple iPad’s sales of 300,000 in the first day. The price cut may also be related to the rumor that Amazon will release it’s own tablet very soon. See: New Amazon Tablet Vs The Apple iPad – Tablet Wars Begin!
