Sony says there may be a PlayStation 3/PS VITA combo pack available before this Christmas.
In a recent interview with CVG, managing director of PlayStation UK, Fergal Gara has said that crossover features and services make the concept of a combo or bundle between the PlayStation 3 and the PS VITA a good case in terms of retail.
The report states, “We’d have nothing against that whatsoever. And it’s not out of the question that we would do that this Christmas if we wanted to. We put together packages for retail, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t create a ‘Vita plus PS3’ bundle, which could feature games that use cross-play, as well as include a PlayStation Plus subscription that both devices could use.”
This would further add to the brand value of Sony, as the combination of the console and the handheld device would be a very lucrative offer for potential shoppers. This is evident from Nintendo’s Wii U console, which combines a console and a hand-held device for a different gaming experience.
Speaking about the bundle, Gara added, “I think there’s scope to have deals where people buy both the Vita and PS3, along with cross-play games and get a discount.”
Whether Sony actually puts out a bundle or not…. well, we’ll just have to wait and see. But the very prospect of a PlayStation 3/PS VITA bundle is exciting news for gamers around the world.
