Psst! Want A Free Comic Book?

The secret is out, tomorrow May 3rd is officially Free Comic Day!

If want to take part, all you have to do is head down to your local (participating) comic book store. When you show up, you are guaranteed at least one free comic book.

This is the 13th year that the comic book industry has celebrated the first Saturday in May by giving away its chief product. They hope it will not only entice younger readers in the world of graphic novels, but perhaps bring back some of the past fans as well.

Not so coincidentally, Free Comic Book Day is coupled with the release of a big budget superhero movie, this year’s being The Amazing Spiderman 2. The huge popularity of these movies and the recent celebration of the geek culture (Bazinga!) has fueled interest back to comics and comic book stores.

There will be large selection of free comic book choices from a number of publishers, including not only the time proven favorites (Marvel, DC Comics, Dark Horse) but some lesser known ones as well (Image, Oni Press, Th3rd World).

Titles will include everything from Spiderman and Future’s End to SpongeBob and Hello Kitty.

Some comics are brand new concepts and some are tried and true favorites. Someone of any age will have no issue (pun intended) finding something that appeals to them.

A list of participating stores across the country can be found on the Free Comic Book Day website, and one is bound to be near you.

Which comic book was/is your favorite? Leave a comment below.
