Recall Alert: Skippy Peanut Butter Recall Continues, More Info

In cooperation with the USFDA a popular brand of peanut butter is being recalled for the possibility of salmonella contamination. In a press release the parent company Unilever said that only 6 “Best-if-used-by” dates and two UPC codes are affected, but the products were shipped to at least 16 states around the country. So far the recall only affects the Skippy brand reduced fat peanut butter, in both the crunchy and smooth varieties. Up to this point there have been no reports of illnesses, and the company said that no other products that they make were affected.

Where The Product Shipped And Other Details

According to their press release, the affected products were shipped to the following states: Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. The UPC codes, which can be found immediately below the bar code on the side of the packaging, are: 048001006812, and 048001006782. The Best-If-Used-By date that can be found on the lid of the jar, will be any of the following: MAY1612LR1, MAY1712LR1, MAY1812LR1, MAY1912LR1, MAY2012LR1 and MAY2112LR1.

Why The Recall

The recall was initiated in cooperation with the USFDA after samples of the suspect batches of the peanut butter showed signs of the bacteria. Salmonella is a potentially deadly illness, for the very young or very old, that manifests itself with Fever, diarrhea that may be bloody, vomiting abdominal pain and vomiting. In some cases the infection has invaded the bloodstream could cause arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis. If any of the peanut butter in question has been eaten and any of the above symptoms are experienced, the USFDA recommends seeing a doctor immediately.

Replacing The Bad With The Good

If you have purchased any of the tainted product, Unilever has created a toll free hotline and is urging customers to throw away the potentially tainted product. Unilever will send you a coupon for a replacement. by calling their hotline at 1-800-453-3432. This number is working 24 hours per day, if more information on the recall is needed customers can call their hotline during normal working hours to talk to a company representative.
