Recall On Skippy Peanut Butter

There has been a recent recall on 16.3 oz jars of Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter. The recalls are noted on both the Peanut Butter Spread and Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter. The reason behind the recall appears to be a salmonella contamination.

According to Medicine Net, “Salmonella is a bacterial infection that is passed to humans from animals, including poultry, cattle, pigs, and domestic animals. Eating undercooked poultry and drinking unpasteurized milk are among the ways humans can acquire the infection.”

WebMD warns that salmonella could potentially cause fever and abdominal cramping and have a fatal impact on youth and elderly who are exposed to the infection. According to WebMD, “Every year, approximately 40,000 cases of salmonellosis are reported in the U.S. Because many milder cases are not diagnosed or reported, the actual number of infections may be 30 or more times greater. Salmonellosis is more common in the summer than winter.”
