Republic Wireless is revamping its services, with some major changes expected this July.
As of now, only two phones are available from Republic: The Moto G and the Moto E. These phones must be purchased directly from Republic, as they need to support the sort of hybrid Wifi calling that has allowed the company to offer their low prices ($10 a month for unlimited talk + text, with calls being sent over the internet whenever Wifi is available).
However, Republic Wireless, which has until now relied on the Sprint network to support its cellular calls, has recently teamed up with a major GSM network which will be used in addition to Sprint, and will be offering seven new phones starting July.
These phones include the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the Nexus 6P, the Samsung Galaxy J3, the Moto X Pure Edition, the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Nexus 5X, and the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Although Republic has not openly revealed which GSM network it has signed a contract with, it has admitted that it is the “magenta” network, causing Bloomberg News to conclude that it is T-Mobile.
Republic Wireless will also be doing away with its refund plans, which refunds users for any unused data. Instead, new customers will be offered competitive plans, such as unlimited talk + text and 1GB of data for $20 a month.
Republic Wireless has also recently introduced Bonded Calling, which uses cellular networks to patch up internet calls when the Wifi connection is sketchy.
