While the world waits for the sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which will hopefully get here sometime before the next ice age, the movie’s director, David Fincher, as well as its leading lady, Rooney Mara, may be collaborating on another project in the near future.
According to Deadline, both Fincher and Mara are interested in getting involved with the film adaptation of the novel, Red Sparrow, a spy thriller by Jason Matthews that’s set in modern day Russia.
Fox is currently in talks to have Eric Warren Singer write the screenplay for Red Sparrow. Singer is fresh off an Oscar nomination for co-writing American Hustle with David O. Russell.
Obviously, Red Sparrow is in the early stages, but with Fincher finishing up post-production on Gone Girl and Mara filming a real-life adaptation of Peter Pan, the two will soon be free, so the timing could work out perfectly to reunite for a project that seems to fit both perfectly.
Until the powers that be get their act together and send Fincher and Mara back to Sweden to film The Girl Who Played with Fire, having the two collaborate on a Russian spy thriller may be the next best thing.
