Scottish Vacation Cottages – Beautiful Surroundings & Great Value

If you’re considering a Scottish vacation on a budget, but don’t want to compromise on comfort or location, then a self-catering vacation cottage might be just what you’re looking for.

While a vacation cottage might not provide all the facilities of a modern hotel, what you do get is bags of privacy and space. You might not have a 24 hour gym onsite, but when you’ve got outstanding accommodation at a fraction of the price who cares?

One such hidden gem you might want to consider for your Scottish vacation is “The Shack”.

Situated in the Galloway Forest Park in Dumfries and Galloway, The Shack sits in a woodland clearing surrounded by wildlife and inspiring views of the Scottish landscape.

I stayed at this well presented vacation spot earlier in the year, and while the name might conjure up the image of a ramshackle old building, “The Shack” was anything but.

Tastefully renovated to a high standard, The Shack is a great example of how choosing a vacation cottage over a hotel doesn’t mean you have to compromise on comfort.

Scottish vacation cottages like The Shack can be rented for around £400 a week ($650). When you consider a 4 star hotel in the same area would cost around $800 for the same length of time, it’s easy to see how a vacation cottage can be a tempting alternative.

If you’re interested in renting a Scottish vacation cottage – or a property elsewhere in the UK – then there are a number of sites that might be helpful to you.

Visit Scotland is the official site of the Scottish tourism board, and offers a range of information about upcoming events, things to do and deals on accommodation.

More focused on the rental side of things is HolidayLettings.co.uk, a service from the well-known Trip Advisor which offers information, reviews and booking options.

If you’re looking for something a little special, Cottages and Castles is another site offering bookings of cottages (and castles!), but also features other events and experiences you might want to enjoy on your vacation.
