Shoppers Make Run On Whitney Houston Music

Whitney Houston has shot to the tops of the charts before. Less than a day after her death, she’s doing it again.

As of Sunday afternoon, “Whitney Houston – The Greatest Hits” is number 1 on Amazon’s best selling music list. Number 2 on the list is “Ultimate Collection – Whitney Houston”. It goes on… the original soundtrack of “The Bodyguard” is number 3, “Whitney Houston” is number 5 (“Adele” slipped in there as number 4), “Whitney” is 6, “The Preacher’s Wife: Original Soundtrack Album” featuring Whitney Houston is 7, “I Look To You” is number 8, and the soundtrack to “Waiting To Exhale” is number 10.

Whitney-HoustonHouston music is currently holding 8 of the top 10 spots. 12 of the top 20.

Sales of Houston’s music is also surging on iTunes, but not as rabidly as what appears on Amazon, though that may be a result of the charts covering different time frames. At iTunes, Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” is currently the number 3. “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is 18, and “How Will I know” is number 27. A variety of Houston songs continue lower into the top 100 iTune rankings.

The Digital Spy is reporting that Apple is raised the prices on Houston’s music in the iTunes store by more than double after her death. The Digital Spy is based in England. We have Twitter users in both the UK and US complaining of iTunes raising prices in the wake of Houston’s death. but have not been able to independently confirm these reports at this time. We will keep you apprised as we learn more.
