Walmart is launching a nationwide contest which will allow those with new product ideas to get their product in front of shoppers. Shoppers can then vote on which new products they would like to see on the shelves at Walmart.
“For a long time, the ability to get a product into a retail store was at the sole discretion of the store buyer. Today, we are removing these barriers by giving anyone a chance to launch their product at Walmart and reach millions of shoppers nationwide,” said Venky Harinarayan, senior VP of Walmart Global e-commerce, and co-head of @WalmartLabs.
The contest will be held at GetOnTheShelf.com. Contestants can enter a video into the contest up until February 22. The voting will be done in two rounds. The first round will be March 7 through April 4. The top 10 finalist will be advanced to the second round, with voting taking place from April 11 to April 24. The top pick will receive featured placement on Walmart.com’s homepage, inclusion in Walmart’s e-newsletter, marketing support, advice on scaling up to meet demand, and of course, a spot on the shelves at Walmart stores.
“Walmart has the best products at everyday low prices but we know there are some great undiscovered products that have not yet reached our shelves,” said Harinarayan in an announcement about the launch.
According to Walmart, the site opened for a sneak preview several weeks ago, and there’s already 60 entries eligible to be voted on. A video and instructions are posted on GetOnTheShelf.com.
