Singer Jill Scott Loses 50 Pounds, Set to Release “The Light Of The Sun”

Jill Scott’s first new studio album in four years, “The Light of the Sun,” is due out on June 28th, and she’s marking the event with some amazing weight loss.  After losing more than 50 pounds, she’s thinner that she’s been in 20 years.

“I’m past caring about some things that never mattered in the first place and [I’m] in love with my baby boy,” Scott says in the June issue of Ebony.  Jett Hamilton Roberts is just over two years old, and his father is Lil’ John Roberts.  He is the drummer in her stage band and was Scott’s boyfriend until a month after Jett’s birth.

Scott graces the current issue of Ebony, and added “I’m also unafraid. I know how much music has always meant to me, how much it means to us all, and I know there’s someone out there, maybe just one someone, who can feel inspired by being brave.”

Scott’s weight loss was aided by a personal trainer who that suited exercise to Scott’s priorities.  “Anything that makes me feel like I’m not working out. We go outside and throw footballs, go for walks.”

Jill Scott got her start as a poet. She acts in addition to singing and has won three Grammy Awards. She has been invited to read at a poetry event hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and held roles in the “Why Did I Get Married?” films and has a lead role in “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” airing on Showtime.

“The Light of the Sun” will be her fourth studio album.  Following a legal battle with former label Hidden Beach Recordings, this album will be released by Warner Brother Records.   Hidden Beach plans to release a 10 song compilation entitled “Just Before Dawn: Jill Scott From the Vault, Vol. 1” on June 14th.
