For 50 years, one name has played a big part of the movie world. Some call him 007, but most know him as Bond, James Bond. With 22 films, James Bond has made major impact in the cinema world.
The 23rd movie in the Bond franchise, Skyfall, hit theaters in the US yesterday.
Skyfall, of course, follows the story of James Bond. This time he faces his most dangerous mission yet. It all begins with an attack on the very heart of MI6, as M’s past comes back to haunt her.
The devastating attack leads Bond to investigate; but what he discovers on this mission could lead to the end of the espionage organization.
The plot to “Skyfall” is the most in-depth story I have ever seen in a James Bond film. The movie takes the idea that many of its predecessors have blindly followed and makes the formula fresh again. The pace picks up by the third act, but for the most part, the film uses its time wisely in order to establish this very compelling plot.
Daniel Craig returns as James Bond and continues to grace the stage with his damaged portrayal of 007. Though he has more charm this time around, you can see that his action-filled life has taken a toll. This turns Bond into a very three dimensional character.
However, movie-goers soon discover that Skyfall is not just about James Bond. The entire cast is not only great to watch, but each character feels like they have a real purpose in being in this movie.
Judi Dench’s M shines as she takes the character to places she has never gone before. Javier Bardem’s performance as the villain pays homage to many Bond rogues, while creating very sadistic character that even the likes of The Dark Knight’s Joker would applaud. Other cast members, such Naomi Harris, Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes, help establish the supporting cast and give this action ensemble definition.
“Skyfall” is a full, rich, movie. Each technical element leaves something to remember.
Like any Bond film, there is a stylish opening credit sequence; and I must say, this was undeniably one of the best I have seen from the series.
Of course, when talking about James Bond, you come to expect plenty of action, and this film delivers in that area. Everything from cinematography to music fits. This is a Bond film that you won’t soon forget.
In fact, I’d have to say that Skyfall is one of the best in the James Bond, 007 franchise. It reinvents the Bond formula, while establishing something unique to the series. Full of nostalgia and style, Skyfall not only belongs in the James Bond franchise, but it is easily one of the best films of 2012.
