According to an Engadget report today, Sony has announced the Sony Xperia Tablet Z from Japan.
The tablet is a 10.1-inch model with Android 4.1. It features roughly the same design and features as its smartphone equivalent, the Xperia Z (announced on January 7, 2013).
According to the report, the tablet is set to feature: “a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core APQ8064 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen (with Mobile Bravia Engine 2), an 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera, NFC, LTE (MDM9215M radio), microSD expansion and Sony’s very own “S-Force” virtual surround sound technology.”
The new tablet is also set to be dust proof and water proof, and will house a 6000mAh battery.
The most interesting aspect of Sony’s new tablet though is its size. The device is set to be only 6.9 mm thick with a weight of 495 grams.
Those measurements put the Sony Xperia Tablet Z at the front of the pack as the thinnest and lightest tablet in the world.
