Spotify, the popular on-demand music streaming service, is offering a $3 per month lifetime discount to users who cancel their Spotify subscriptions through Apple’s App Store and reapply via the Spotify website.
Emails explaining this promotion are being sent out to current Spotify Premium members who purchased their subscription through the App Store. The emails inform users that App Store-based subscriptions cost $3 more per month because Apple charges a service fee to developers for all purchases made through their store, raising the normal Spotify Premium price of $9.99 per month to $12.99 per month.
The emails encourage users to sign up for Spotify Premium through the Spotify website in order to pay the regular lower monthly price of $9.99. The emails also include a step-by-step guide explaining how to easily transition from App Store-based subscriptions to web-based subscriptions.
Although the $3 per month discount only applies to Spotify Premium users who purchased their service through the App Store, it is important to note that the $9.99 Premium subscription offered through the Spotify website is available to everyone. While Apple Music, Apple’s brand new subscription-based music service, is available through the App Store for $9.99, Spotify Premium is not technically a more expensive competitor if purchased through the official website.
