With almost 42 million views, Star Wars fans swarmed to the internet to watch the teaser trailer of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, just six days ago.
In true internet fashion, people soon found something to complain about. The opening scene shows a mask-less, black Stormtrooper played by John Boyega, and that was enough to cause a racist fueled stir.
Soon the hashtag #blackstormtrooper started trending on Twitter. The 22 year-old actor replied with “To whom it may concern, get used to it” on Instagram.
While it may seem that John Boyega is the Jackie Robinson of Stormtroopers, people seemed to quickly forget the other great, black actors in the franchise: James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader), Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu), and Lando Calrissian, played by Billy Dee Williams – who blew up the second death star!
To put an end to “plot holes” allegations of black Stormtroopers, it’s very possible as Stormtroopers were recruited all over the galaxy – opposed to Clonetroopers. Also, much like Han and Luke, this guy could have just been disguised as a Stormtrooper. We’ll have to wait and see.
I think this will be an amazing installment for Star Wars, one that it hasn’t seen since the 80’s (don’t get me started on the prequels).
The Force Awakens will be well worth the price of admission, and then some.

The Force Awakens will be out on December 18, 2015.
