“When Marnie Was There” Coming to US Next Month

In collaboration with GKIDS, Studio Ghibli has announced that their most recent film When Marnie Was There will come to North American theaters in English beginning in late May and will continue through June.

Studio Ghibli, a Japan-based animation company, has worked with Disney for years to voice-over their films into English, though they worked with GKIDS for this film.

Some of Studio Ghibli’s most famous works include Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, and the highly acclaimed The Wind Rises, the last of famous director Hayao Miyazaki’s films.

When Marnie Was There tells the story of Anna, a reclusive Japanese girl sent from her home in the city to live in a town near the ocean.

Anna’s live changes when she meets Marnie, a friend who accepts Anna as she is.

Shortly after the beginning of their friendship Anna’s curiosity about her friend begins to flourish, especially when Marnie seems to be surrounded by mysterious circumstances.

The film will be shown in both Canada and the United States. More information and a complete list of locations, is available on the When Marnie Was There Facebook Page.
