For the 2015 model year Subaru decided to reintroduce both a manual
and an automatic transmission option to the WRX.
Surprisingly, the automatic in my tester turned out to be a CVT.
The CVT pretends to be a traditional gearbox by simulating either 6 or
8 gear ratios depending which of the three performance modes you
choose.
However, if its performance your after you best choose the
manual as the automatic proved to be lethargic and emphasised turbo
lag.
The engine is an exciting 2L turbo boxer 4 cylinder which produces
268 hp @5600 rpm and 258 lb-ft between 2000-5200 rpm.
Once the turbo has spooled up this car will put a smile on any gearhead.
According to Car and Driver, the Subaru WRX will get to 60mph in 4.8 seconds,
commonly known as fast.
The interior has been improved by the use of soft touch materials, a
“D” shaped steering wheel and optional tech package that includes a
voice activated in dash GPS navigation system with a 6.1 inch
touchscreen.
This system allows for blue tooth connectivity, SMS text
messaging, USB, and Sirius XM satellite radio(3 months free), and a
push button start with proximity key.
The door openings have been enlarged and head and shoulder room
upfront and in the back are improved.
The exterior styling is polarizing, but fans of this rally inspired
family sport sedan will gladly overlook its ho hum looks.
Overall the 2015 Subaru WRX is much improved and looking to appeal to a larger
audience.
