Summerfest, 2011 – Preview, Dates, Ticket & Streaming Details

Summerfest is right around the corner! Don’t know what Summerfest is? According to the Summerfest website:

[Summerfest is] the World’s Largest Music Festival and Milwaukee’s cornerstone summer celebration [that] attracts the music industry’s hottest stars, along with emerging talent and local favorites. The 23,000 capacity Marcus Amphitheater, 10 additional stages, diverse selection of food and beverages, marketplaces and interactive exhibits are set against the Lake Michigan and downtown backdrop, creating a festival experience like no other.

Summerfest is an 11-day (you heard correctly) festival that runs from June 29th – July 3rd, and July 5th – 10th from noon to midnight. It’s set up beside a lake in the 75 acre Henry Maier Festival Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

According to CollegeNews, It is no surprise that [Summerfest] attracts such crowds and so many headlining acts. Peter Gabriel, Owl City, Jason Mraz, Kanye West and Katy Perry will all perform at Summerfest, along with countless other headliners and performers.

At Summerfest, live musical acts are offered on eleven stages during the entire duration of the festival. All shows are free with a ticket (with the exception of headlining acts at the Marcus Amphitheater). Admission is between $8.00 and $15.00 depending on the day and time. Admission for anyone over 60 or between 10 and 3 is $3.  Children under 3 are admitted free. There are also countless promotions for discounted or free tickets. Ticket information is at summerfest.com. Livestream has a Summerfest channel set up at livestream.com/summerfest.

Summerfest was first conceived in the 1960s by mayor Henry W. Maier, after he was inspired by his visit to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Summerfest recently celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2007.
