Sunbeam Recalls Wine Bottle Openers Sold On QVC

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Sunbeam Products Inc. is recalling 159,000 wine bottle openers after consumers reported that the openers were leading to injuries suffered when the openers shattered bottles when used.

Injuries reported were cuts and lacerations on their hands from the bottles breaking.

According to the CPSC, consumers should stop using the Sunbeam product named Skybar Air Pump Wine opener with the model number, NBSKWA2600. These openers were sold as part of a four-piece set that was packaged in a black storage box. The colors of the recalled openers were gray, blue, red or silver/black.

The openers were sold on QVC online, as well as their retail stores across the country. The online products were sold between November 2010 and December 2010. Prices ranged from $30.oo to $60.00 dollars.

Consumers that bought the products from the retail stores are being advised to take them back for an immediate refund. Consumers purchasing the openers through QVC’s TV shopping programs have been mailed instructions on obtaining a refund. Purchasers that haven’t received a refund notice, are instructed to call QVC at (800) 367-9444 daily between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. Eastern Time. If not purchased through QVC outlets, consumers are asked to call Sunbeam direct at (800) 759-2279 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
