Sunny Day Ruins Hopes For 133 New Car Owners

It was a beautiful day here in St. Augustine, Florida, last Friday. Just what 133 new car owners didn’t want.

A local car dealership here, Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury, held a promotion. If it was to rain an inch on the morning of April 8, 2011, everyone who bought a car from them during the previous month would get their car for free.

While St. Augustine did get some rain early in the week, the skies were clear by Friday. The official rain gauge for the promotion, located at Craig Airfield, north of St. Augustine, registered 0 inches of precipitation on the appointed day.

General Manager of Bozard Ford Lincoln Mercury, Jeff King, told the St. Augustine Record “It’s a Chamber of Commerce day here in St. Augustine. It’s the perfect day to be out on the golf course or the beach.”

The dealership had purchased rain insurance, just in case. If it had rained in inch on Friday morning, the insurance company would have paid for the cost of the cars.

Early in March, King told AOL News that the dealership was off to its best month ever, and predicted that they would sell 200 cars in March. While the 200 car mark wasn’t reached, the dealership did get some attention for its unique promotion, even on a national level.
