Syfy To Premiere Time Traveling Police Drama ‘Continuum’ On 1/14

Continuum, the highest-rated scripted basic cable series in Canada, will be premiering on Syfy January 14, 2013.

In Continuum, Rachel Nichols (Criminal Minds, Alias) stars as Kiera Cameron, a cop from the year 2077 inadvertently brought to the year 2012 by a group of terrorists using time travel to escape execution.

In the present, Cameron teams with a technological wiz kid (played by Jericho‘s Erik Knudsen) and local detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster, Castle) to track down the terrorists before they can change history.

That may all sound cut and dry, but not everything is as it seems. The future Cameron comes from is a bleak one — corporations run the world and enforce order through an Orwellian police state. The terrorists that escape to the present call themselves “Liber8” and hope to free their world from the unjust clutches of the totalitarian corporation regimes that rule their world.

The show premiered in May 2012 in Canada with the first season carrying ten episodes. Syfy’s acquisition of the series includes the wrapped first season as well as the upcoming second season.

A DVD of the complete first season is expected for release from Universal Studios Home Entertainment soon after the season finale airs on Syfy.

Continuum will make its U.S. debut on January 14 at 8pm ET/PT, followed by the season 3 premieres of Being Human and Lost Girl, another Canadian original series. A trailer for Continuum can be found below.
