Tablet prices have been dropping regularly, but now Archos, who is already famous for their range of Affordable Android tablets, has surprised many. They are now offering a 7 inch Froyo tablet for $99. It’s named the Archos Arnova 7.
Of course, there are many compromises, as it is an impossibly priced device. There is no camera in this tablet, in the front or at the back. Another common feature missing in this tablet is the GPS, which is a comparatively less wanted feature.
But considering the price, it does have a reasonable set of features. The most attractive feature of this tablet is the ability to play 720p video. Not only that, according to Archos, the Arnova 7 will be able to play various formats of video, which includes mkv, avi and of course mp4. The screen resolution is also impressive, 800×480 pixels. That means it will be widescreen too. Reading newspapers or browsing websites will be easier in this large screen without zooming much… which is good, as zooming will not be a great experience in this tablet, as it has a resistive touchscreen.
Arnova 7 is also missing access to Android Market, which is replaced by AppsLib, and there are so many alternative app stores available for Android now. Archos appears to mostly be aiming toward an audience seeking an inexpensive access to the internet and for reading e-books with the Archos Arnova 7. No word yet on the shipping date.
