The young man who seemed like a simple, ordinary, and nice guy to all who knew him turned out to be a cold, calculating robber and killer.  At least that is the way the Lifetime Channel is portraying Phillip Markoff, “The Craigslist Killer,” in their made-for-TV movie that airs tonight at 9PM Eastern.

Markoff, in case you do not remember the media-frenzied story in 2009, was a Boston University Medical School student.  He seemed to have all of his “ducks in a row,” even off campus.  He was engaged to a beautiful and wealthy fiancé and all seemed to be going as well as possible for young Phillip.  However, Markoff had a dark side that showed its ugly face in April of 2009.

Phillip Markoff was, at the time of his trial and arrest, suspected of at least three robberies, one of which ended up in the murder of a woman from Rhode Island.  The controversial movie is purported to be “based on a true story” and follows the story of Markoff from the period when he meets his soon-to-be-fiancé Megan up to, but not including, the time when his trial is to begin.
