The application process for getting tickets for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London began this week. Ticket sales opened on Tuesday and will continue for the next six weeks, ending April 26.
Tickets are not being sold on a first-come-first-served basis, according to Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. “You have no greater chance of getting a ticket on March 15 than say 22 days in to the process. We have got every confidence that everybody who wants to come will get a chance,” said Coe.
Just over six and a half million seats will be available, spread over 26 sports, and 17 days.
In the United States, ticket sales are being handled through CoSport, whose website is at cosport.com. Confirming Coe’s statement, CoSport states that ticket sales all receive an equal opportunity and are not prioritized by the time that an application is made. Applications for tickets to oversold events will be chosen by ballet.
According to the site handling US ticket sales, there is a limit of 48 tickets per account. Ticket confirmations are expected to be emailed to buyers in mid-May, 2011.
In addition to the US, CoSport is also the only authorized 2010 Summer Olympics reseller for Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Norway, and Sweden.
The 2012 Summer Olympics will be held from July 27 to August 12.
