Tomato Recall Hits Kabobs: Pork, Chicken, Salmon & More

Taylor Farms’ voluntarily recalled products containing grape tomatoes earlier this week. Safeway is now expanding its list of items to include fresh kabobs made with grape tomatoes.

The kabobs were sold in the meat counter in Safeway, Vons, Pavilions and Pak N Save stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota and Southwest Washington State.

Produce grower Six L’s supplied the grape tomatoes to Taylor Farms, and they were then distributed to several national retailers.  The recall was the result of possible Salmonella contamination.

Kabobs sold between April 26, 2011 and May 3, 2011 with a Sell By Date through May 3, 2011 are included in the recall.  A full list of items is included below.

No illnesses have been reported. Safeway initiated this recall as a precautionary measure.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that the Salmonella organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

According to the FDA, healthy persons who become infected often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.  In rare circumstances, Salmonella infections can result in a bloodstream infection, producing more severe illnesses.

Taylor Farms is asking customers to discard these products or return them to their local store for a full refund.
