Tonight Fox’s “Touch” returns for season 2 tonight.
The somewhat supernatural thriller stars Kiefer Sutherland as Martin Bohm, a father of an autistic 11 year old boy named Jake.
Jake is mute, but has the ability to ‘connect the dots’ in his head. To mathematically ‘see’ ripples… how one little thing happens and affects everything else, worldwide. A powerful ability. One that others would like to harness for their own, apparently evil, intentions.
It’s an unusual show in many ways. Actually very touching and deep at times. I was moved.
But at the same time, I would not call Touch a great show. I’m not sure exactly why I don’t consider it great… but based on season 1, I can only give it a lukewarm endorsement.
Apparently I’m not the only one that feels that way.
Liz Raftery of TV Guide is provides some clues that suggest that Touch is being reworked somewhat by it’s producers.
For one thing, she says Jake and his father will have an easier time with communication this season. Raftery quotes executive producer Tim Kring as saying “I think the audience is going to find they’re not quite as frustrated with the inability for Martin and Jake to communicate with one another.”
For another, there will be a new character, Lucy, Amelia’s mother. This will add a new dynamic and mission to the show, as they begin the serious search for Amelia.
There will also be more action, something fans of Sutherland’s “24” both crave and dread… we don’t really want to see this show become some kind of strange revision of “24,” do we?
Unfortunately, it looks like season 2 will not include Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who played social worker Clea Hopkins so very well in season 1.
So we will be watching the premiere of Touch, season 2, with great interest tonight. It will be on FOX at 8 eastern, 9 central time.
Let’s see where this season takes us – and after you watch the premiere, stop back by here and tell us what you thought of it!
