Try Out An Oculus Rift Virtual Headset For Free

Best Buy is offering free Oculus Rift demos.

Oculus Rift stations are available at 48 Best Buy stores nationwide. They’ll give shoppers an extended look at what the technology can do.

According to a blog post on Best Buy’s website this week, customers can try out two virtual reality experiences: A rock-climbing game called “The Climb”, and a more open-ended experience called “The Dreamdeck”.

Oculus Rift has been in development for several years. In 2012, original parent company, Oculus, launched a Kickstarter that raised more than $2 million.

In early 2014 an early prototype of the product won the Best of CES award at the International Consumer Electronics Show. In March of that year, Facebook announced that it had purchased Oculus for $2 billion.

The product finally arrived at retail this spring at the suggested price of $599.

Shoppers can find the Best Buy nearest to them demonstrating the Oculus Rift, schedule a time to test it themselves, or order the device at BestBuy.com/Oculus
