Two Hours Of Fun – Guardians Of The Galaxy

Marvel Studios has another hit on their hands.

“Guardians Of The Galaxy” opened this weekend to record ticket preorders and for good reason.

Based on one of Marvel’s many comic book franchises, the story follows Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt of “Parks and Recreation” fame. He, along with other misfits of the stars, band together for their own purposes to save the galaxy.

Director James Gunn creates amazing visuals, with each locale different from the last. Some scenery harkens to “Thor: The Dark World”, though considering the world hopping that takes place, that is likely deliberate.

The action is exciting, and laughter is commonplace with hilarious, sharp writing. Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, steals every scene he’s in.

The 3D is great here, working harder than most films these days. Geometric shapes feel like they should and this humble reviewer even blinked at something incoming.

Unfortunately, few characters are given real development. The rest have history that is at best, glossed over, at worst, completely neglected. Physics are tossed out the door for the sake of drama and excitement.

The main villain, Ronan, has a menacing, dark presence, but shares numerous similarities with a Sith Lord from Star Wars to keep him from being memorable.

Ultimately a fun action movie, with an entertaining soundtrack.

“Guardians Of The Galaxy” is rated PG-13 in the U.S, and open in all major theaters.
