The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration told Sergio Marchionne, the Chrysler Group LLC  Chief Executive, to “get their act in gear”.

This urging comes as the NHTSA, believes Chrysler has been taking far too long to repair recalled Jeep products whose fuel tanks rupture in low speed rear end collisions.

The increased concern is due to the potential fire hazard these vehicles pose.

To date, only 137,000(approx.) of the 1.56 million owners have had the repair completed.

The repair being performed is simple, Chrysler installs a trailer hitch, thus adding some more metal before the fuel tank is compromised. Think of it as an additional bumper you can put a bike rack on.

As of Thursday Chrysler claimed to have 400,000 hitches ready to install.

Yet there are still complaints that some dealers have not yet received the parts.

So, if you own a 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty or a 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, phone your local dealer and arrange for your free trailer hitch installation.

Do not put it off, as this issue is not a problem until it is a massive problem, by which time its too late.
