Unlocked Nokia N9 Hits US, Sloppily

Nokia-N9Reversing course, Nokia has apparently decided to release its Nokia N9 smartphone in the US.

The US market has not been kind to Nokia smartphones. Of course, that may change with the introduction of Nokia Windows phones, but we are jumping ahead of ourselves. Back in August of last year, Nokia announced it was not going to release the N9, which runs its MeeGo operating system, in the states. They were apparently just going to focus on Windows phones for the US market.

But on Friday, Phone News spotted the N9 on Fry’s Electronics weekly flyer. The phone is an unlocked version, and is priced at $599.

The ad is a bit odd, as there are several typos. It says the phone has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED screen, when the truth of the matter is that the N9 has a 3.9 inch ClearBlack AMOLED screen. And MeeGo is spelled ‘Mego.’ hmmm…

Although it appears in the flyer, the phone is not on Fry’s website. In the flyer, it says that there is a limit of one N9 per customer.

A rather odd US launch for a phone that has won awards and sold well in other countries.
