In episode 4 of The Walking Dead Season 4, Indifference, six members go on a search mission looking for medicine.
The Elderberry tea is holding the infection back a bit for some, but members are still dying.
Tyresse’s anger over Karen’s murder is consuming him, while Michonne decides to give up her search for the Governor.
Rick goes out with Carol, but struggles with the knowledge of her being the killer of Karen and David.
Watching Carol’s personality change from a quiet scared mouse, to a hardcore killer, has been a surprise for everyone.
Through seasons 3 and 4 (so far) of The Walking Dead, we’ve watched as the characters have changed and adapted into true survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
In Season 3, Carl became hard and jaded, even killing the living. Rick went to his dark place.
They seem to be coming back. Finding themselves and their humanity. In the same manner, we’ve seen Michonne becoming more relaxed, friendlier, even likable.
But others, like Carol, and Tyresse, have rapidly gone the other direction.
Could Carol have come back to herself as Carl and Rick did? Possibly… but her callous attitude about the murders forced Rick’s hand.
Carol tells Rick “You don’t have to like what I did, just accept it”.
Her heartless response pushed Rick to make a unilateral decision to refuse her return to the prison. Carol doesn’t see herself as the same person anymore either, and doesn’t put up a fight when told she can’t return. She even donates her old watch (a symbol of her old life?) to Rick as she leaves.
Will we see Carol again?
Will she become even more callous left out on her own?
How will the group react when they realize that she committed the murders… and did Rick save her life by getting her away from Tyresse?
