Walmart Now Guaranteeing Fresh Fruits & Vegetables, Direct From Growers

You may soon see fresher fruit and vegetables, many purchased direct from growers, at your local Walmart.

Walmart announced their new initiative in a press release yesterday.

According to the retailer, changes include improved training, operations and sourcing, all geared toward providing fresher produce.

Walmart also said they will have weekly produce checks from independent teams at the 3,400+ Walmart Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and Express Stores that sell produce.

A major part of the program is that Walmart will be purchasing more fruits and vegetables directly from farmers. The company’s goal is to double their sales of locally grown produce by the end of 2015.

“We’re listening to our customers and delivering on our promise to offer great produce at the most affordable price,” said Jack Sinclair, executive VP of the food business for Walmart U.S, in a statement.

“We are so sure our customers will be pleased with the fruits and vegetables they buy in our stores, they can receive a full refund if they aren’t completely happy.”

According to the web page that details the refund policy, shoppers unsatisfied with the freshness of their fruits or vegetables can request a refund by bringing their receipt back to the store. The actual product does not have to be returned.
